A rainy day finally

Rain has been sparse since December.  I don't remember using
my umbrella more than twice this whole season.
So the gentle rainfall today is such a surprise
and so welcome.  Went out for a walk with the pugs
to soak up as much of the good smells & moisture as  I could.
Really wishing that we'd have many more days of this; but I know to enjoy it now,
because it easily may be the last we see till November.

Lulu and Sophie seem happy with the day. With a walk
then their snack, they are content now to curl up
and nap away the grey day.  I'm sure they'll
miss the nap in the sun while I'm
working in the garden.

We bought new chaises for our anniversary &
yesterday was the 1st day we had them outside.
Like washing a car, it must have brought 'rain karma'.

For a windy day

The last days of May

I love a fresh start in the garden.  Even though
it is the same ground worked every year, with
the same rocky, hard soil; the same
gusty, strong winds to deal with coming
from the coast from March to June;
the hot spells that come in for a hit and
wither the lilacs & sweet peas way too early.

I still get pleasure from adding a splash
of color to an old chair

--put up a new hanging basket--

--making a big flower bed out of an
unused part of the yard--

And what's made it easier, and why I've never thought
of it before, a potting bench!
A reused wooden sliding door, 2 sawhorses, a small shelf on top
